From 2024, a new Georgian national airline - Air Iveria plans to operate. The airline will start operating with 3 or 4 aircraft, and in the future Air Iveria's crew will at least triple.
On March 23, 2023, an exclusive cooperation agreement was signed between Air Iveria and Airbus. As the founders of the airline, Irakli Giorgobiani and Tengiz Tkeshelashvili, said in an interview with Commersant, Air Iveria plans to fully use the domestic market along with international destinations and start operating at Kutaisi, Mestia and Telavi airports.
“Our goal is to fully and properly use the infrastructure of Georgian airports as well as to improve and use the airports of Kutaisi, Mestia, Batumi, Telavi. The Ministry of Economy considers the construction of new airports, including in Anaklia and Kobuleti. The domestic tourism development is very important for us. So we will be able to travel around Georgia in one hour instead of 9-10 hours," Tengiz Tkeshelashvili notes.
In Irakli Giorgobiani’s words, the company's short-term and long-term plans will be set in the next 2 months.
“Our goal is to start operations in 2024. We have established a relationship with Air Bus, we expect they to share their experience and knowledge with us, properly assess the current destinations and potential markets. In the next 2 months, our short-term and long-term plans will be set, we believes our plans to start operating in 2024 are quite realistic,” says Irakli Giorgobiani, co-founder of Air Iveria.
The company’s competitive advantage focuses on passenger comfort and services.
“We will focus on the comfort of passengers and services. We want to say a new word not only in the Georgian and regional market, but also in the global market, our customer is our king. This is our main competitive advantage. We should not compete with our rivals, we should create a new product,” Tengiz Tkeshelashvili points out.
In his opinion, with the launch of the national airlines on the market, Georgia has all the chances to turn into a regional hub, along with the airline, the “ecosystem” related to it will be also developed , as a result, Georgia’s budget will be filled with additional $2— $3 billion.
