In 2023, the Georgian authorities plan to begin implementing the first stage of construction of the Tskhaltubo-Akhaltsikhe-Tortum power transmission line (TL), which will connect the energy grids of Georgia and Turkiye, Report  informs via Sputnik-Georgia.

The project for the construction of the Tskaltubo-Akhaltsikhe and Akhaltsikhe-Tortum transmission lines will be implemented with the financial support of the German KfW, and its cost is about 62 million euros.

According to budget forecasts, at the first stage in 2023, it is planned to build a 500 kV Tskaltubo-Akhaltsikhe transmission line with a length of 103 km.

The second stage involves the construction of a 400 kV power transmission line Akhaltsikhe-Tortum, with a length of 34 km.

The construction will be carried out by the Indian construction company KEC International Limited.

According to the government, the throughput and reliability of the country's energy system will increase dramatically thanks to the project.

The project is co-financed by Germany through KfW and the EU under ENIP (Energy Network Improvement Programme). ENIP's total investment is €270 million, co-financed by KfW and the EBRD, including €9.9 million in grant funding from the EU Neighborhood Investment Facility.
