In
2019 Georgia was ranked 29th among 181
countries in terms of inflation - it amounted to 7%, which is the highest in
the region, excluding Turkey (11, 84%), Tradingeconomics.com reports.
Georgia topped the rating with 11.2% inflation a very long time ago, namely in 2010.
According to expert Zviad Khorguashvili, this is unforgivable for the authorities which allowed the country to be in the lead of a negative rating along with the most economically underdeveloped countries.
“The more developed the country, the lower its inflation rate, with rare exceptions. Unfortunately, Georgia is among the poorest countries in terms of inflation, despite it is not considered as one of the poorest countries in the world. Thus, it is unforgivable that Georgia is placed on a par with the African countries where monetary policy is openly considered a business and not a way to regulate inflation, ”he says.
According to the 2019 data, inflation in the countries of the region was significantly lower - in Russia 3%, in Azerbaijan - 2, 6%, in Armenia - 1%.
Venezuela tops the list with 181 countries with 39 113%, followed by Zimbabwe - 480%, and South Sudan - 170.5%.
At the same time, deflation was recorded in Libya (-6%), Burkina Faso (-3.8%), and Chad (-2.8%).
