The Georgian railway and the trans-Caucasian corridor increase competitiveness in the transit transport market. Georgian and Azerbaijani railways as well as private transport companies operating on this route have agreed seasonal through tariff for the transit of oil and oil products from Turkmenistan.
The agreement is aimed to increase the competitiveness of the corridor compared with the Russian Volga-Don transport route which mainly carries oil and oil products from Turkmenistan to Europe.
New tariffs will attract 200-300 thousand tons of Turkmen oil, as result of which the Georgian Railway will earn GEL 10 million in profit through the transit.
