Georgia’s
electricity imports increased by about 7.5 percent in 2019, while exports
declined by 58.7 percent.
In 2019, the country purchased 1623 million kWh of electricity, while in 2018 - 1508.82 million kWh. Last year, 68 percent of imports came from Azerbaijan, and 32 percent from Russia.
Exports reached 243.4 million kWh in 2019 against 588.58 million kWh in 2018. Georgia exported electricity to four neighboring countries, including Turkey (46 percent).
According to the balance approved by the Minister of Economy, in 2020 imports is prognosticated to drop to 1253.9 million kWh. Exports are projected to increase to 577.8 million kWh.
