After
the introduction of the second stage of the EU oil embargo, almost no
Russian oil is imported to Germany.
According
to the Federal Statistical Office, in January 2023 Germany received
only 3,500 tons of oil from Russia, while in January 2022 the volume
of imports was equal to 2.8 million tons - a month before Russia's
attack on Ukraine.
"As a result, oil imports from Russia practically stopped. Arithmetically, it fell by 99.9 percent," the statistical office said.
Russia's
share of Germany's total oil imports has fallen from 36.5% in January
2022 to just 0.1% today.
The
situation is related to the imposition of sanctions against Russia in
connection with its aggressive behavior towards Ukraine. This has led
to a decrease in Russian oil imports to Europe and increased
dependence on other suppliers such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
