Demand for bicycles as an eco-friendly ode of transport has increased worldwide, especially during the pandemic.

Lasha Sokhadze, the sales manager of Georgian Bicycle Group, says that the sales of all bicycles manufactured by the leading brands are growing in Georgia from year to year.

For example, demand for bicycles in the country tripled in 2020 compared to 2019.

"The company saw a drastic growth in 2022, compared to 2021, the sales increased by 50%. Due to our terrain, a special demand is observed for electric bicycles. As for the price segment, non-electric bicycles worth GEL 2,000 to 3,000 and electric bicycles worth GEL 4,000 to 8,000 are most in demand," Lasha Sokhadze notes.

"For example, in one year  we’ve  sold 25 bicycles worth GEL 17,000 that was unexpected for us," the sales manager of Georgian Bicycle Group notes.

Georgian Bicycle Group hopes that Georgian-made bicycles will be as popular as their foreign counterparts. The frame of the Georgian bicycle is already ready, the bicycle base is also opened, and at this stage, the company is waiting for the arrival of parts from Japan.

In the optimistic scenario, the first Georgian bicycle will be released to the market in 2023, in the most pessimistic scenario, the bicycle will reach Georgian users in 2025.

The first Georgian bike will be sold both in Georgia and abroad, its price will start from GEL 1 500.
